In 1999 Chemeron Ltd purchased Rajwera and established a mixed arable and pastoral farm. Through over 20 years of learning and hard work, our farming practices have been tailored to work with the land and environment. After operating as an out grower for other seed companies, Chemeron Directors, Nigel and Janey Leakey, recognized the need for a new kind of seed company, one that considers arid and marginal lands, as well as the budgets and consumption of small scale farmers. This is how Leldet Ltd. came into being. Chemeron operates as an out grower for Leldet, and also produces high quality hay, grains and cattle.
The Team

Our team is central to every success that both Chemeron and Leldet have achieved. For more than two decades we’ve been learning and growing together. We pride ourselves in the diversity represented in this group, which has staff from all over Kenya.
Crops and Agricultural Practices
A holistic consideration of the natural processes at work in agriculture is central to our methods. Chemeron was a local pioneer in the use of minimum tillage agriculture, which maximizes soil health and minimizes evaporative moisture loss. Any surface run off is stored in onsite dams, where it is later used for livestock.
Chemeron grows a variety of crops in a rotation that also includes grazing and leaving land fallow. These crops include:
- Maize.
- Beans.
- Sorghum.
- Wheat.
- A variety of Pulses and Legumes, such as cowpeas, pigeon peas and ground nuts.
- Rhodes Grass, for hay, seed and silage.

Livestock
In addition to crops Chemeron also produces beef and lamb products. Designated grazing areas double as a natural habitat for many wild animals.
We have Boran, Charolais-Angus, Red Poll and Jersey cattle. Our grass fed cattle ensure we maximize the utilization of the entire farm.
We also have Dorper sheep, which complement the grazing habits of the cows.

Rajwera Boran
In 2016 Chemeron started the journey to having a herd of pedigree Boran cattle. By registering foundation, purebred and pedigree generations, we aim to develop a line of large framed, robust and productive cattle.
